Destructive Weld Testing
At MTS we offer a range of destructive testing systems to ensure the plastic joints have fused together properly.

MTS Ltd. provides main contractors, sub-contractors, specialist fusion welders, local authorities, and government agencies throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland with visual and mechanical examination of welding in our independent laboratory based in Carlow.
Polyethylene and polypropylene piping systems are fused together using electrofusion welding or butt fusion techniques.
The quality of those welds is of critical importance to the integrity of the piping system and its ability to function. At MTS we offer a range of destructive testing systems to ensure the plastic joints have fused together properly. The tests accredited by INAB under ISO 17025, Testing & Calibration Laboratories help to demonstrate the integrity of the piping systems they hold together.

Joint Testing
The joints tests comply to WIS methods and carried out to the appropriate ISO standard.
- ISO 12953 – Polyethylene (PS) pipe and fittings – determination of the tensile strength and failure mode of test pieces from a butt-fused joint.
- ISO 13955– Peel decohesion test for polyethylene (PE) electrofusion assemblies > 90 mm
- ISO 13955 – Crushing decohesion test for polyethylene (PE) electrofusion assemblies < 90 mm
- ISO 13956 – Decohesion test of polyethylene (PE) saddle fusion joints — Evaluation of ductility of fusion joint interface by tear test.
