MATERIALS TESTING SERVICES
Destructive Weld Testing
At MTS we offer a range of destructive testing systems to ensure the plastic joints have fused together correctly.
MTS Ltd. provides main contractors, sub-contractors, specialist fusion welders, local authorities, and government agencies throughout Ireland and Northern Ireland with visual and mechanical examination of welding in our independent laboratory based in Carlow.
Polyethylene and polypropylene piping systems are fused using electrofusion welding or butt fusion techniques. The mechanical integrity of a piping system hinges on the quality of its welded joints. Any imperfections or anomalies in these welds can compromise the system’s ability to withstand the intended pressure, temperature, and stress loads. At MTS, we offer a comprehensive suite of destructive testing solutions specifically designed to evaluate the fusion efficacy of plastic joints concerning ISO standards.
Our testing protocols adhere to the rigorous standards of ISO 17025, ensuring the utmost accuracy and reliability in assessing the mechanical properties of the welds. Accreditation by the Irish National Accreditation Board (INAB) further underscores the integrity and validity of our testing procedures.
Joint Testing
The joints tests comply to WIS methods and carried out to the appropriate ISO standard.
· ISO 13953 – Polyethylene (PS) pipe and fittings – determination of the tensile strength and failure mode of test pieces from a butt-fused joint.
· ISO 13954 – Peel decohesion test for polyethylene (PE) electrofusion assemblies.
· ISO 13955 – Crushing decohesion test for polyethylene (PE) electrofusion assemblies.
· ISO 13956 – Decohesion test of polyethylene (PE) saddle fusion joints — Evaluation of ductility of fusion joint interface by tear test.
